Three Marks of Existence

Three Marks of Existence by Dennis Waugaman

Three marks it is the wise men know
One they note that all will go
Two, all roads follow the blind
Three, there is no self to find

One is all that you possess
It’s full of naught but emptiness
Born or stolen, made and sought
Soon nothing left of what you bought

Two is empty of relief
Seek not eternal bliss or grief
Some brief respite may satisfy
Soon you’ll know that too was lie

Three is what they never seek
Why search for that of which we speak
A one true self is but a lie
Only a dream can live and die

This poem comes from the generosity of Dr. Dennis Waugamann, a friend of many years.

The poem was inspired by the book The Four Agreements by Ruiz.
