Hasya Yoga ( Yogic Laughter )

Laugh and the world laughs with you.  Cry and you cry alone. – anonymous

” We teach what we most need.” – Steven Spence

First encountered Hasya Yoga at a session held in a local church hall last year.

It made a big impression.

Laughing for ” no reason “, laughing as an exercise, for breath control, to release tension.

Miming imaginary activities such as driving a nonexistent car, or leaning to and fro in an imaginary elevator challenged the left-brained mind-space which tries to make sense of everything, to put it all into neat boxes.

Most of us lived more happily before the ascendency of the analytical mind.

For a little while, Hasya yoga encourages the playful abandon of childhood in a safe environment, reducing stress and enhancing creativity. (am told about the creativity)

From a local Meetup group for Hasya yoga:

Children laugh an average of 300 times per day, yet by the time they become adults, their laughter
dwindles to about 15 laughs per day. In laughter yoga, we set aside the critical mind and allow our
natural inner joy to pour out by combining intentional laughter exercises with childlike playfulness.

This past weekend, drove 900 miles to attend a Hasya Yoga weekend training for Laughter group leaders.

What a blast! Totally worth it.

That, and maybe I’ll get to help throw some fellow sentient beings out of their left-brain dominant mind-spaces for a while.

Hey, let’s blow really long and hard on some imaginary hot soup !

May the blessing of laughter be yours !
